We recommend selecting a minimum of three of the below sessions to form your bespoke programme.

  • Academic Skills

Our Academic Skills session provides an introduction to some of the skills needed at university. Higher level writing skills will be introduced to learners alongside referencing approaches typically used at university and
    some higher level reading skills.

  • Communication Skills: An Introduction

earners will have the opportunity to reflect on their verbal and non-verbal communication skills and complete practical activities to identify and demonstrate these. They will also consider the importance of these for
    future education and employment pathways.

  • Communication Skills: Public Speaking and Presenting

This session considers the nature of public speaking and explores skills for engaging an audience and overcoming fears around presenting. Learners will plan, practice and reflect on their public speaking skills. This
can be delivered as a follow-on to the introductory communication skills session or as a stand-alone workshop.

  • Critical Thinking

Learners will reflect on and identify their own critical thinking skills and apply these in scenario-based group tasks. They will consider how they can develop and apply these skills throughout their studies and future employment pathways.

  • Finance and Budgeting

This session supports learners to understand the costs associated with HE, explore their spending habits and learn how to budget in a HE environment and beyond.

  • Goal Setting and Self-Efficacy

Learners will consider the importance of goal setting, discuss different types of goals and set some short, medium, and long-term goals. They will learn about and create a vision board to guide them towards achieving their individual goals.

  • HE Pathways

Exploring next steps for post-18 education, learners will reflect on their goals and future plans and learn about the different options available to them at HE. The session explores benefits of HE and evaluates a range of different pathways including higher and degree apprenticeships and foundation courses.

  • Reflection for Learning

This session considers the benefits of reflection as part of the learning cycle and helps learners to identify how to apply reflection skills in their academic studies to support and accelerate progress at level 3 and beyond.

  • Resilience

The importance of resilience will be explored in relation to stress and the impacts of stress. Learners will reflect upon their current resilience levels, before engaging with a range of ideas and activities to help them develop their own resilience tool-kit.

  • Revision and Exam Preparation

Learners will discuss how memory works and how it can be improved, explore a range of revision techniques including ‘The Story Method’ and discuss the importance of managing time and space in the run up to exams.

prioritisation and time management activities to support the development of these skills.

The new UCAS personal statement structure will be introduced in this session which will provide advice on how to write a personal statement, signposting to available resources and an opportunity to ask questions about the application process as a whole.
