Looking back on last week, here are our highlights:
Matthew held our final Learn to work session at Kirk Hallam Community Academy, where learners got to grips with Interviews and assessment centres! With 2025 flying by, the focus was on the key elements of the final part of their application journey. With some of the learners through to this stage, there was an opportunity to ask some more specific questions at the end!
Karolina visited The Newark Academy Sixth Form learners to continue our Get Ready programme, this time looking at reflection for learning and critical thinking. Year 13 had a chance to use their critical thinking skills to debate who to hire for a specific job, before discussing avoiding bias and how they would police TikTok. Year 12 also looked at some past mock exams and how to apply the assessment wrapper technique to them, to develop in the future.
We supported the East Midlands Apprenticeship event at the University of Derby where over 800 students came to listen to talks and talk to over 40 employers! Both Matthew and Tina gave talks on degree apprenticeships and university breaking down the key information and answering some great questions! Thanks to Dan Mitchell and Elivia Gates and University of Derby for putting on such a great day for us to be involved with National Apprenticeships Week.
Our Prepare to Succeed programme visited Springwell Community College, where learners explored different revision techniques and pitched a different technique per group to the rest of the class. Natalie, Tina and Hollie were really impressed with the learners and how they approached this session.
At Alvaston Moor Academy Monica and Matthew continued the Prepare to Succeed programme and broke down different techniques for revision. After some amazing Dragons Den style pitches, the Past Papers and Mark Schemes team won the class vote which leave the question, will next sessions “Protégé Effect” be able to steal a victory? Finally, we would like to say a massive well done to the learners for staying after school on their last day of term, you were amazing!
We finished the week at The Parkside School where learners had the final session of the Steps to Success programme. We explored next steps and future pathways, and it was great hearing the different plans from the learners in the group!
