Here are our highlights from last week:
We started the week at with our Get Ready programme at Christ the King School where learners discussed resilience and how to practise it. We looked at various techniques, such as the stress bucket, and by the end of the session they all made a resilience resolution to take forward.
Learners at The Becket School had their final session on the Prepare to Succeed programme with Aimee. They reflected on their revision spaces and created a revision timetable considering the importance of physical and mental wellbeing. Learners reflected on the programme as a whole and what they will use moving forward, it was lovely to hear that one student had already put some of their new knowledge into practice and received a teacher award for her efforts!
Year 12 learners at The Brunts Academy worked on their academic skills, focusing on referencing and active reading, both of which will be necessary for their time in year 13 and higher education. Karolina was super impressed with how well they approached their introduction to referencing, as it’s certainly not an easy task!
Karolina then visited The Dukeries Academy, where year 13 discussed employability and transferable skills as part of their next Learn to Work session. It was great to hear learners pick out their main skills and qualities that they can use in future applications and interviews.
Tina visited Springwell Community College where learners took part in our Steps to Success session starting with Metacognition, where learners engaged well and some good discussions were had.
Our Steps to Success programme also visited The Bulwell Academy with Natalie, where learners took part in the critical thinking workshop and decision-based activity!
Aimee led a personal statement drop-in session at Nottingham College on Wednesday morning. It was great to be able to support learners, even when they couldn’t attend due to mock exams, through different types of feedback on their personal statements.
At Quarrydale Academy, year 13 finished their Learn to Work apprenticeships programme and had a go at doing both an assessment centre as well as using the STAR technique to write answers for mock interview questions! It was fantastic to hear that some have already taken the initiative to not only start applying for degree apprenticeships but have passed onto the next stage!
We introduced the Prepare to Succeed programme at The Bulwell Academy, where learners took part in the first session of the programme, Learning to Learn with Natalie and our new area officer Matthew. We were very impressed with the dedication from this group, they worked incredibly hard which was very impressive considering this was an after-school session too, well done!
We finished the week with our Learn to Work programme at The Joseph Wright Centre at Derby College. Natalie and Matthew explored higher and degree apprenticeships with year 12 learners; what makes the qualification different to other University courses, the types of apprenticeships that are available in the region and the benefits and limitations of apprenticeships.
