We hoped everyone enjoyed their half term break! Here are our highlights from last week:
We worked with Nottingham College High Pavement learners throughout the week delivering an introduction to personal statements session. We had some mature and thoughtful questions and it was great to hear about some of the learners plans for their next steps. Thank you High Pavement for having us!
We visited the Garibaldi School Year 12 twice this week. On Day 1 they took part in a communication session, playing fun games and learning how to make a persuasive argument. We loved hearing their arguments about topics such as AI. On Day 2 we finished the Get Ready programme with a session about critical thinking, where they chose the best people for the job based on information given to them. Some very interesting thought patterns in who they would hire. We wish them all the best in the rest of the academic year, and will see them in Year 13 for more Get Ready sessions.
We welcomed learners from George Spencer Academy to the University of Derby for Day 1 of our Thrive programme, focusing on teamwork, communication and resilience. Learners had a great time taking part in competitive activities and asking tons of questions on the campus tour, before taking part in a speech-writing workshop with Nik Perring from Never Such Innocence. We heard some great speeches from them about what it’s like having parents in the Armed Forces. Looking forward to the second day of the programme today at University of Nottingham.

We finished the week with week 1 of our Learn to Work programme with a group of year 12 learners at The Nottingham Emmanuel School. We discussed Higher and Degree apprenticeships, how they work, how they might be different to undergraduate degrees and explored some current vacancies. After this session learners were meeting a former student who is a current Rolls Royce apprentice, it was also great to learn that they had taken part in the Learn to Work programme when they were in year 13!
