Weekly Round Up 10/02/2024

We’ve had a busy week delivering across our schools and colleges. Here are our highlights:

We started the week at with our Steps to Success programme at Newark Academy where two groups of year 10 explored critical thinking. It was great to hear their opinions about news we see in the media, and how biased certain media outlets can be.

Hollie returned to Bramcote College for the final week of the Learn to Work programme with their year 12. We looked at how to find an apprenticeship and what to do at an interview, ending the session with some mock interview activities!

We returned to The Samworth Church Academy, where Karolina started the Lead the Way programme with year 12s, looking at project management skills. There were some fantastic projects starting to take shape, so we’re excited to see how they get on with the planning before our next session in a few weeks.

Our Prepare to Succeed programme visited Springwell Community College with Natalie and Tina, where learners focused on the story method technique and also the Method of Loci. Natalie and Tina were impressed with the engagement from both groups and loved hearing the stories which were created.

Matthew and Monica supported the Widening Participation Team at the University of Derby with their CES Experience Day. The day consisted of a Why Go session, a Forensic Taster session student support session! It was great to see such a positive turn out of learners, parents and carers and we would like to thank Liz Bailey for organising such a great day.

We welcomed learners on the Supported Insight Scheme back to the University of Derby. This week was the week of the clothes swap shop which the learners named “Campus Swap Shop”. The learners have been working hard to prepare for this event and it was great to see it come to life. Natalie and Anna were particularly impressed with the confident customer service skills the learners displayed and it was great to raise £30 for charity too! We are looking forward to our celebration event for the learners this week.

Karolina visited Queen Elizabeth’s Academy for the last session of the Steps to Success programme, focusing on goal setting. It was amazing to see so many different career aspirations around the room, where we could advise learners on a 1:1 basis on their next steps. It was a bittersweet end as that was the last session of the programme; a fantastic group of young people that we wish all the best to and will likely see next academic year!

Hollie finished the week at Alvaston Moor Academy, for the second week of the Learn to Work programme with year 11. We looked at where to find apprenticeships, discussed transferrable skills and how these can be applied when applying for an apprenticeship! Monica also visited Alvaston Moor Academy to deliver session two of Prepare to Succeed to a group of year 9 and 10 learners that stayed behind after school to learn how to ‘train their brain’ to recall information more effectively.
