Here are our highlights from last week:
We kicked off the week with our Think, Reflect, Succeed programme at the University of Derby where Farnborough Spencer Academy joined Matthew and Aysha for an in-depth look at their critical thinking, reflection and research skills. We hope this has set them on the right path to succeed through their education pathway and will help them to use these skills in day-to-day life!
At Newark Academy, Year 12 took part in their last Get Ready session with Karolina, focusing on goal setting. It was great to start making plans that they will take forward into Year 13; we wish them all the luck!
We had a fantastic first day of the Future Leaders programme with our Nottingham learners at the University of Nottingham. Nathan Addai from Mental Roots delivered another thought provoking workshop encouraging learners to reflect on mental health, wellbeing and their communities. Learners from Djanogly City Academy, Nottingham academy, The Nottingham Emmanuel School, Farnborough Spencer Academy and Bluecoat Wollaton Academy developed pitches for ideas that they would like to implement within their communities and presented these to the group with confidence. There were some amazing ideas put forward and we hope to see some of these in action in the future!

Karolina started the Get Ready programme with Year 12 at The Garibaldi School. We’ve adapted the sessions to fit a shorter slot, with follow-up exercises that learners will complete during tutor time. This week, we started with goal setting, and it was fantastic to see a range of different career aspirations around the room.
Meanwhile at Springwell Academy, learners on our Steps to Success programme were introduced to the programme and metacognition with Natalie Smallwood who is looking forward to working with this group over the coming weeks!
At Heritage High School, learners participated in the first 2 sessions of the HE&Me programme. Natalie had a fantastic morning with the learners and really enjoyed answering lots of questions and discussing future pathways. We look forward to welcoming the group to the University of Derby soon!
We’ve had a busy week with Quarrydale Academy. A group of Year 9 visited us at University of Derby on Wednesday, where they took part in out new Key Stage 3 skills day, taking on the format of an escape room! They had plenty of great questions about the university campus, and did a great job solving all the puzzles. Natalie and Karolina then visited the whole of Year 12 for their first session of the Get Ready programme, focusing on revision and exam prep, a perfect starting point in time for their mocks. They’ll be taking part in more skills-based sessions in July.
