Here are our highlights from last week:
We welcomed learners from George Spencer Academy for Day 2 of the Thrive programme at the University of Nottingham. They took part in a quick welcome session, then had an accommodation tour and got involved in more problem-solving activities. It was fantastic to chat through what we mean when we talk about community and what communities they’re part of. Thank you to the learners and the school for another fantastic year of the programme!
We visited The Pingle Academy with our Steps to Success programme. In a jampacked week the learners focused on metacognition, worked on their critical thinking and revision skills and had a full day with Talk The Talk! We can’t wait for next week to finish the programme.
At Djanogly City Academy, learners completed their Steps to Success programme with a session on Goal Setting and Self-Efficacy. It was great to work with them again after a bit of a break between sessions and they did brilliantly in considering their future goals and plans.

Natalie visited Springwell Community College and Parkside School for the final session of Steps to Success. Learners looked at goal setting for the future. It has been a pleasure working with both groups and we I look forward to doing so again!
We had a great day at the University of Nottingham for Day 2 of our Future Leaders programme with our Nottingham learners. We were delighted to be joined by our 2025 Future Leaders mentors from Bilborough College along with over 50 year 10 learners from Bluecoat Wollaton, Djanogly City Academy, Farnborough Spencer Academy, Nottingham academy and The Nottingham Emmanuel School. The day’s workshops were run by Emmanuel from Aim A Little Higher and had learners developing their communication, teamwork, critical thinking skills and so much more! There was so much energy throughout the day and everyone embraced the activities and the day with enthusiasm. We can’t wait to see our Nottingham Future Leaders again for the final day of the programme on the 9th July!
Tina and Natalie welcomed 90 Year 9 learners at the University of Derby for a campus visit. They learnt about university life and what they could study, had a fantastic campus tour with the wonderful University of Derby Student Ambassadors – Abie Walker, Chelsea Lockyer and Omoye Esangbedo. They also took part in tasters in Business led by Oscar Echesirim from the University of Derby Widening Participation team or Forensic Science led by Student Ambassador Amelia Clark. It was great to see the learners enjoying the day, and for many of the learners, this was the first time they had visited a university campus.
We finished the week with week 2 of our Learn to Work programme at The Nottingham Emmanuel School where we discussed apprenticeship applications, the use of LinkedIn and writing techniques to make their applications stand out.
