Here are our highlights from last week:
We started the week at Christ the King Catholic Voluntary Academy. Learners on the Get Ready programme took part in a critical thinking activity, where year 13 learners took on the role of an employer on an interview panel with Natalie.
Year 11 at Quarrydale Academy started the Prepare to Succeed programme where we discussed the revision journey and how they currently revise. We also had a go at using the story method to remember data sets; some great and creative stories came to life to remember the photosynthesis process!
At the Brunts Academy, year 12 learners worked on developing their critical thinking skills, working in groups first to determine who would be the best candidate for a job, before discussing how to regulate TikTok. There were some excellent points made, and students did very well to avoid bias and personal judgements – excellent critical thinking skills!
We returned to the Bulwell Academy for session two of the Steps to Success programme. Learners took part in a metacognition session with Natalie.
Tina visited the David Neiper School for their Careers Event. We saw learners from across the school who asked some fantastic questions. We then had the opportunity after school to talk to learners, parents and carers about their young person’s aspirations for the future and provide CIAG for post-16 and higher education opportunities.
At Heanor Gate Spencer Academy we attended a Drop-Down Day. Natalie and Tina enjoyed working with year 11, 12 and 13 learners on time management, interview skills and apprenticeships information sessions.
We introduced our Learn to Work programme at Nottingham College where learners reflected on their knowledge of higher and degree #apprenticeships. It was also great to work with some learners on their personal statements, we saw some brilliant examples of these, and Aimee is excited to see how these have developed next week.
We hosted our second Think, Reflect, Succeed of the year in collaboration with the University of Derby and welcomed learners and staff from The Bulwell Academy, Parkside Community School, The Bolsover School and Landau Forte College Derby. The learners worked exceptionally well throughout the day and enjoyed experiencing a university campus environment. We had the great pleasure of support from UoD student ambassadors who answered some excellent questions from the young people.
We are looking forward to our next Think, Reflect, Succeed event in January, get in touch if you would like to bring some of your year 10 learners along!
