Our learners always impress us in our sessions and last week was no different. Here are our highlights:
We returned to Queen Elizabeth’s Academy, where year 10 on the Steps to Success Programme focused on their critical thinking skills. A lot of great ideas, and Karolina certainly left with a knowledge of how best to survive a zombie apocalypse!
Natalie introduced the Prepare to Succeed programme at Shirebrook Academy to two groups of year 11s this week. The sessions were focussed on ‘learning to learn’. We hope the programme proves useful to the learners on the run up to their mock and actual GCSE exams.
Hollie went over to Bramcote College to work with year 12 learners on the Learn to Work programme. They explored what are Higher and Degree apprenticeships and where to find them.
Tina and Natalie went to Springwell Community College to observe FixUp working with Year 11 learners. This project was funded by DANCOP through our School and College Led Projects initiative. There was fantastic energy and enthusiasm from both the presenters and learners through the assembly and workshop sessions.
At Newark Academy, year 12 on the Get Ready programme worked on academic writing and references with Karolina, and whilst they found their introduction to referencing difficult, they took it in stride and even learned how to reference online journals by the end of the session!
Natalie, Anna and Cheryl Bowler welcomed learners from St Andrew’s School back to University of Derby for the second day of the DEBP Supported Insights Scheme where DANCOP is a host employer. The learners had the opportunity to meet with members of the DANCOP team, find out more about their job roles and ask any questions they had. Learners also took part in activities to develop their customer service skills in preparation for the clothes swap shop they will be hosting in a few weeks time.
Natalie finished the week at Parkside School with a Steps to Success Resilience session. The year 11 learners focussed on their goals ahead of their GCSE exams and how they can develop their resilience techniques to support themselves throughout the next few months.
