Weekly Round Up 24/06/2025

Here are our highlights from last week:

We returned to The Pingle Academy for their final Steps to Success sessions. The learners put their Talk The Talk skills into practice in order to build their resilience and then start their goal setting. We loved hearing about their different future plans and helping to make them a reality!

We welcomed learners from Shirebrook Academy to the University of Derby for a campus visit as part of the HE and Me programme. The learners focussed on researching various universities across the UK and then presenting back their findings to each other. They also took part in a Campus Tour Q+A with student ambassadors Samara Lemon and Georgio. A great day all round!

Tina and Natalie welcomed 90 year 9 learners from Tibshelf Community School also visited the University of Derby campus and took part in Business and History tasters with Samara Lemon and Matthew along with a tour of the Kedleston Road campus from the University of Derby Student Ambassadors, and a session about What is Higher Education and the benefits.

DANCOP team members Tina and Natalie and University of Derby Ambassadors Samara and Gorgio smiling at the Shirebrook Academy's HE&Me session.

Funded by DANCOP, Aim A Little Higher delivered a workshop at Heanor Gate Spencer Academy with year 8 learners. Tina Wakelin went along to see how the sessions went, and there was plenty of energy and engagement from learners and the Aim A Little Higher team.

We also supported an Open Day at Royal School for the Deaf Derby. It was a lovely day and lovely weather for the event too!

We finished the week with Learn to Work at The Nottingham Emmanuel School, exploring the difference between transferable and industry skills. Students spent time identifying their own skills and what they can bring to an apprenticeship.
