Here are our highlights from last week:
We welcomed learners back onto the University of Derby campus for Day 2 of the Future Leaders programme for our Derby Schools. We spent the morning in the Multi Faith Centre taking part in a workshop run by Emmanuel from Aim A Little Higher. They developed their confidence and communication skills taking part in games, activities and discussions reflecting on their own behaviours and futures. The afternoon saw Diversify Education and Communities work with our Future Leaders to develop their creativity and business ideas. They presented to the rest of the group in a lecture theatre for the second time throughout the process and it was clear to see their growth and development from week 1to week 2. Well done Future Leaders, we can’t wait to see you again for day 3 and our celebration event!
We’ve had a busy week with our Steps to Success programme. Year 9 Learners at Shirebrook Academy completed the whole programme this week covering metacognition with Tina; then critical thinking and revision and resilience, then finally goal setting with Karolina. A very intense week for them, but great to see lots of creative ideas, such as a rap written about photosynthesis.
Year 10 Learners also on the Steps to Success programme at Parkside School focused on Revision with Hollie. Hollie had a busy day with Revision sessions as she was also at Springwell Community College in the morning, covering the same session there as well!
Tina supported the Apprenticeship and T Level Information Event at Chesterfield Football Club, organised in partnership with Chesterfield Borough Council, Workpays and EMCCA. A great evening hearing from apprentices and young people on T Level programmes, along with advice and guidance about Apprenticeships, T Levels and applying.

Year 12 on the Get Ready programme at the Garibaldi School took part in a short session all about time management and reflected on their own schedules, as well as learned about techniques such as the Eisenhower Matrix.
Tina returned to Shirebrook Academy for Session 1 & 2 of the HE & Me programme. Our Year 10 learners covered What is HE and the Benefits, and then straight into the Routes and Careers paths session where students explored potential careers’ that they were interested in. We are looking forward to welcoming the learners and staff onto the University of Derby Kedleston Road campus in June where they will get chance to explore different universities, using their research, teamwork, communication and presentation skills, as well as a great campus tour with the UoD student ambassadors.
We finished the week at Djanogly City Academy with learners focusing on resilience, exploring ways in which they may already embody resilience, and new resilience strategies to take forward.
We hope everyone has an enjoyable half term break!
