Weekly Round Up 28/10/2024

As schools finish for the half-term break, we reflect on our highlights from last week:

We started the week at Buxton & Leek College delivering sessions to Sport and Media students about higher education pathways and planning out their personal journey, along with advice and guidance to support their forthcoming applications.

Tina attended the EMCCA Careers Hub – Careers Leader meeting for North Derbyshire, where we heard about plans for the year, updates from Chesterfield College, a session on using learner voice to inform careers programmes and a session from Talentino about supporting SEND Learners. We also had an industry focused session on green careers and retrofit. There will be some great resources for schools and teachers to share in their lessons with students about these opportunities.

Tina went to Tibshelf Community School to support their year 10 and 11 Careers and Parents/Carers event. Some fantastic conversations with learners and their parents about higher education and careers. Thank you for inviting us along to support this event.

Karolina delivered the final Lead the Way programme session to the year 11 Senior Student group at Springwell Community College. The learners had a go at responding to interview questions using the STAR technique, using examples of project management and leadership from our sessions together. They did amazing! We’re looking forward to seeing how they use their newly gained skills throughout the academic year.

Tina visited Shirebrook Academy for the whole school Drop Down Day. We worked with year 10 learners looking at their options for post-16 education. It was really nice to talk to them about this early which gives them plenty of time to think about the options that are right for them and their potential career and education choices.

Tina finished her day supporting the Chesterfield Borough Council and EMCCA Careers Hub event at Staveley to provide information about apprenticeships and other technical routes and opportunities in the Engineering, Property & Construction, and Health and Social Care sectors. Great to see so many young people and their parents/carers attending this event and to have conversations about these opportunities and provide some CIAG where needed.

Emma visited Buxton & Leek College talking with level 3 Art and Design students about higher education routes and options, planning out their personal journey so they were prepared ahead of finalising their UCAS applications.

On our third day at Buxton and Leek College Karolina delivered sessions to Engineering, Health & Social Care and Business learners, covering pathways to higher education. They certainly kept her on her toes with their questions about student finance but it was great to have these informative discussions!

We finished the week with Buxton & Leek College students at the University of Derby Kedleston Road campus. Karolina worked with the DCTC Footballers to discuss their next steps and HE pathways that would work best for them. We wish all the level 3 year 2 students we worked with this week every success with their university and apprenticeship applications.
